No Presidential Candidate for ‘No Party Preference’

No Party Preference (NPP) voters — previously known as “decline to state” voters — will receive a ballot with no presidential candidates, unless they ask the county or poll workers for a Democrat, Libertarian, or American Independent party ballot. Those parties are allowing NPP voters to participate in their presidential primary election, according to the California Secretary of State. On the other hand, Republican, Green, and Peace & Freedom parties have chosen to bar NPP voters. To vote among those parties’ candidates, NPP voters must change their voter registration and add a party affiliation before May 23, 2016. Voters can register and re-register online at covr.sos.ca.gov, and also by filling out a Voter Registration Card at the County Elections Office. Cards are also available at most public offices, such as the post office, DMV, and libraries.
