Republican Ads Swing Back at Dems
Inundation Expected in 24th Congressional Race
The big party money is picking up in the 24th Congressional race. On Thursday and Friday, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced it would spend $220,000 on advertisements against County Supervisor Salud Carbajal and Mayor Helene Schneider, according to federal filing reports. TV ads created by FP1 Strategies LLC are expected to inundate the Central Coast in the days to come.
In the month of May, Democratic political action committees — including the House Majority PAC — reported $370,000 in TV ads and mailers in support of Carbajal. A flurry of mailers and ads attacked Republican challenger Katcho Achadjian’s consistent F grade from Planned Parenthood, likening him to Donald Trump, claiming, “They don’t trust women. So we can’t trust them.”
On Friday, Achadjian swung back, releasing a video of his daughter and campaign manager, Nyri Achadjian, saying, “I’m here to set the record straight. I know my dad and I know he respects my rights and the rights of all women.” In a press release, Achadjian contended he has supported legislation protecting women, including bills to set timelines to test rape kits, strengthen fair pay laws, and eliminate workplace discrimination for domestic violence survivors.
