Bernie Visits Ventura College

Hordes of Central Coast residents gathered at Ventura College on Thursday to rally around Senator Bernie Sanders, the presidential candidate with most to gain in California’s closely-divided primary next month.

Sanders called the June 7 state election “the most important primary in the whole dominating process” and assured the crowd that he is best suited to challenge presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump in the fall. Over the course of nearly an hour, the Vermont senator and self-proclaimed “Democratic socialist” touched on issues from employment to immigration, using the revolutionary rhetoric that has become the trademark of his campaign.

“My point is that the establishment always wants you to believe that real change isn’t possible — that your dreams are so radical they cannot be achieved, and you’ve got to accept minor, minor changes at best,” Sanders told the crowd. “And what this campaign is about is rejecting that entire approach.”

Sanders will also appear closer to home Saturday morning for a rally at Santa Barbara City College. Doors open at 7 a.m., with speaking scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
