On May 19, San Marcos High School put together a very nice debate that the students had been helping plan for months. Almost all of the candidates showed up, except for Katcho Achadjian (he had votes, so we will let that slide) and Salud Carbajal, who decided to attend a fundraiser instead.

Considering this debate had been scheduled months in advance, you would think that Carbajal could’ve planned his selling-out party for a different day. But just like the rest of his time in office, he put the establishment and his own self-interests above the people and their concerns, proving once again that he is nothing but another career politician looking for his next promotion.

To make matters worse, the audience was mainly composed of high school students who get to vote for the first time this year. This should’ve been a chance to get them excited about politics, not to show them how selfish certain politicians can be.

I hope people remember this decision on Election Day and vote for someone who cares enough about the people of this community to show up and address their concerns.
