The oceans used to be so much lower than they are today — so low, in fact, that it was actually possible to walk to the Channel Islands from Port Hueneme, which explains the woolly mammoth skeletons found on Santa Cruz Island.

Naturally, human beings like to feel like they are the center of the universe. The environmental movement is largely based in a Christian-guilt type of mentality that says that human beings are sinful and that only Mother Earth (substituted for Jesus Christ) can save them from their terrible polluting ways.

People are worried about the fact that the ocean has risen by an inch or two during the last century, yet, the ocean had already risen by dozens of feet long before the Industrial Revolution.

Pollution sucks, and it should be limited by local and regional authorities, but creating some sort of U.N. “Global-Warming Task Force” is ill-advised.
