After beginning cleanup operations, California Department of Fish and Game officials on 12/7 upped the initial estimates of the crude oil spill at northern Santa Barbara County’s Greka Oil facility into a nearby creek to 44,730 gallons of crude-nearly 11,000 gallons more than originally reported, and 18,000 fewer than the widely publicized San Francisco Bay oil spill on 11/7. County fire officials said cleanup should be finished by 12/21.
