It’s definitely worth it to make a special trip now to upper State Street. Stop near the site of the old Sandman Inn, get out of your car, and just look at the mountains. The construction project has leveled a huge amount of land, and that allows you an unobstructed view of the beautiful sweep of the Santa Ynez mountains. It makes you realize what this area looked like a few hundred years ago. It’s jaw-dropping.
