The Scimitar Cooperative, a group of music fans dedicated to
drawing indie, punk, and metal bands to Santa Barbara venues, has
made January 27 a big day for hardcore-hungry locals. Headlining a
five-set show is Lights Out, a Gorilla Biscuits-reminiscent San
Francisco punk band whose album Overload debuted in July, 2005.
Young but well-traveled after a few cross-country tours, Lights Out
features Connor Spencer, formerly of the Lab Rats, on vocals.
Attendees may also sample Join the Dance, a Carpinteria-based happy
hardcore trio with the motto “Life doesn’t suck — you do.” Rounding
out the lineup will be the melodic metal of NorCal hardcore groups
Down to Nothing, Allegiance, and Ceremony. It all goes down Friday,
January 27, at the Carpinteria Women’s Center for just $7. For more
info, see myspace.com/santabarbara shows. — Drew Mackie
