Jann Arden at the Bowl

by Charles Donelan

Jann Arden is a singer/songwriter from Calgary, Canada, who has
sold more than two million records and won eight Juno Awards,
including Songwriter of the Year in 2002. Her single “Insensitive”
went Top 10 globally in 1995. She opens for Michael Bublé at the
Santa Barbara Bowl on Friday, July 21.

{1} Jann Arden’s distinctive sound is powered
by a small band that includes a drummer who plays the Cuban
“cajón.”

{2} Jann’s Web site, jannarden.com,
includes a great journal feature that will soon be published as a
book. Sample from the July 8 entry, dateline Pensacola, Florida:
“The Dollar store next door had stuff for 6 bucks!! Russ and I
thought that was just cruel.”

{3} She cares about the melody, and so does the
Michael Bublé audience.

{4} You will have fun, because she clearly
is.

{5} She can outgolf you — for endurance. Jann
recently participated in a charity event in Canada that required
her to play 72 holes of golf in 12 hours. How did she feel the next
day? “I couldn’t move.”
