O n September 15 and 16, the Oceanducks, together with the newly
formed nonprofit Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association
(SBCSA), will host its third annual channel swim to raise money for
various environmental groups. The 26-mile relay event begins Friday
night at Santa Cruz Island and ends the following evening at East
Beach. To participate, you have to be able to swim for 20 to 30
minutes in open ocean water. If that is too daunting, you can swim
the last leg of the crossing or kayak the distance. All ages are
welcome. The cost is a $99 registration fee and $400 in donations
to an ocean-caring nonprofit organization. To register, visit
