A Rundown of What Former N-P Staffers Are
Screaming

In the second in a string of four planned rallies this week
outside of the News-Press building on De la Guerra Plaza,
more than 20 former News-Press employees and their
supporters marched and chanted from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday
afternoon to
protest their terminations
and the working conditions under
owner
Wendy McCaw
. More rallies are planned in the same spot from 3-5
p.m. for the rest of the week, and they’re asking for all the
noisemaking support that the community can offer.

Here’s a rundown of today’s top chants:

We Got Fired and We’re Coming Back!: With the
best cadence out of all the chants, this one is certainly a
highlight, and the winning chant of the day.

We Used to Work for Wendy But We’re Coming
Back!:
A play off the one above, this one proved effective
too.

Shame! Shame! Shame on You!: Basic castigation
here, yet when yelled at McCaw’s window through a bullhorn, it
proves pretty powerful.

McCaw Obey the Law!: Standard reference to the

orange and blue posters
that are all over town, this is a call
for the owner to follow federal law and stop firing employees for
engaging in union activities.

Protect Free Speech!: Simple but effective,
this is referring to the fact that McCaw has gone out of her way to

silence the voice
of those who try to bring truth to power.

Hey Hey! Ho Ho! Union Busting’s Got to Go!: A
good ole chant from the Teamsters’ old days, this one’s a classic.
Hard to beat in terms of rhythm and flow.

McCaw Print the Truth!: A response to the
widely held belief that McCaw has been influencing news and causing
less than the truth to be printed.

Long Live the Truth!: Yet another riff on

the truth business
.

Bring Back Dawn! Bring Back Rob! Bring Back Barney
McManigal! Bring Back (etc.)!:
Getting personal here with
the names of
those who’ve been fired
, this chant serves as a reminder to
management that real lives are affected here.

As you can see, they’re being pretty original. But let’s see if
we can help them. Submit your best chants below, and we’ll see if
they use them tomorrow.
