A 19-year-old Santa Barbara resident was stabbed multiple times in the torso and knee after he and a companion chased down two others who were allegedly throwing objects at their vehicle. A fight ensued after the chase, during which one of the car inhabitants sustained the stab wounds. Police say the incident is likely gang-related.

Santa Barbara Police received a call just after 1 p.m. Saturday for a fight on San Andres Street near Carrillo. While police were checking the area, they received a call from officials at Cottage Hospital, who had admitted the stabbed victim in stable condition for non-life threatening wounds. Police determined he was involved in the incident, which began as a minor confrontation, according to Lt. Paul McCaffrey.

McCaffrey said he wasn’t sure what side of town the two vehicle occupants were from but did say they were Santa Barbara residents. He also wouldn’t say whether they were on opposing gang turf. Police are investigating the incident, but have made no arrests in the case.
