KOOL KELA: When he’s not designing ads for Indy clients, Svante Morgan Nilson enjoys creating. “I like to make stuff,” he said. He groups together food, writing, and art as some of the things he creates, and he realizes now that this life-long drive is pretty important for him. It makes sense, then, that he most enjoys being assigned ads that call for creativity and allow for freedom. Nilson grew up in S.B., went to Colorado to study history, and then came back, eventually realizing his determination to be involved with art and The Indy. Graphic design night school at UCSB, trying out a few different jobs, and persistence got him what he wanted, and he’s lovin’ it. “The people who work here are great, and I like it because it’s a free weekly, but it provides a good resource that covers a variety of topics,” he said. And we can’t forget our “pet love” theme: Nilson’s shy doggy, Kela, came back with him from a post-grad trip to Uganda inside her pregnant momma to be born to a good life of walking and playing in S.B.
