With the holiday season right around the corner, Foodbank of Santa Barbara County is doing its best to gather enough food to feed the hungry children, families, and individuals in our community. So far, it’s received nearly 300 turkeys, but, with a goal of 6,000 total, Foodbank needs all the help it can get. “Our neighbors go hungry 12 months out of the year, but this time of year, particularly in this rough economy, we have a tremendous need for food and money,” said Executive Director Erik Talkin. “We can help to brighten their holidays and provide the badly needed help through the winter months.” In addition to fowl, donations of nonperishable food stuffs as well as dollars are greatly appreciated. Annual Turkey Drive, November 1-25; Holiday Food Drive, November 1-December 31. Drop-off locations are in Santa Barbara, 4554 Hollister Ave., 967-5741 x112; and Santa Maria, 490 W. Foster Rd., 937-3422 x106. For more information, visit foodbanksbc.org.
