Give a Little
• Can you read this? Then the S.B. Public Library needs you! The library is seeking volunteers to help with its Reach Out and Read Program, an effort to read books and stories to sick children being treated in public health clinics. The program works with doctors and nurses to make early literacy an integral part of a healthy childhood. Bilingual readers are especially encouraged to apply, as a large majority of the patients are Spanish-speaking. The next volunteer orientation will be held Tuesday, January 27, from 3-4 p.m. Call 564-5646 for more info.
• Does the sea call to you? The S.B. Maritime Museum invites you aboard to participate in many exciting volunteer opportunities and to share your love of all things maritime. There are countless positions available, from being a docent or part of the ranger crew, where you can provide tours to visitors, to running the outdoor visitors’ center, where you can interact with many curious tourists and locals of all ages and educate them on our city’s rich maritime history and tradition. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and must attend a training session before signing up. Call 962-8404 x109 for more info.
