Due to an incomplete application to the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO), the City of Goleta is stalled in taking over sewage function from Goleta West Sanitary District, which would have brought millions into city coffers. Thus, Goleta’s “detachment” proposal didn’t make LAFCO’s March meeting agenda. However, LAFCO will review the city’s bid to enlarge its sphere of influence-the first step to expanding city boundaries.
Haskell’s Landing is a new incarnation of the project formerly known as Residences at Sandpiper. The 101-unit project, located on Hollister Avenue across from the Sandpiper Golf Course, includes duplexes, triplexes, and four-plexes. Project critics don’t like the internal road circulation, parking patterns, or the setback of 50 feet (instead of 100) from Devereux Creek. Project benefits include restored vernal pools and funding for a new fire station. The Goleta City Council will review the project 4/7.
