Cruising the Blue, Climbing the Green
Presenting The Independent's Annual Blue & Green Outdoor Adventure Guide
Waking up to thick morning fog brings much joy to many a Santa Barbaran. It means that the warm afternoons of summer are on the way, and that school and work can start to take a backseat to the pursuit of play. Right on cue, we’re unleashing our annual Blue & Green Guide, so you’ll have ample reading material to waste away those overcast mornings as you await the sunshine.
This year, we bring you three feature stories that honor the sort of characters-both human and animal-who give life to the al fresco experience. Ethan Stewart presents two men who are paddling the entire Southern California shoreline in order to save the Gaviota Coast. Glenn Sharp introduces us to another adventurer who’s made a name for himself scaling the boulders that frame our city. And Chuck Graham delivers a guide for how and where to see the critters that are the highlight of any wilderness experience. We’ve also included, as usual, a guide to the stores and services that can bring you closer to the outdoors.
So enjoy, and we’ll see you out in the blue and green this summer.
