UCSB Declares Intention to Fix Drainage System

According to Shari Hammond, senior planner of UCSB’s department of campus planning and design, the university has publicly announced its intentions to fix the problems associated with the newly constructed – and contentious – San Clemente Storm Water Management System (SMS). Hammond indicated that the new drainage system was not constructed properly, and that multiple engineers have recommended fixing the problems; Hammond said that even the recent light rains raised water levels that were dangerous to nearby bioswales.

In an effort to “make things right,” said Hammond, in reference to “deficiencies and mistakes” the university admitting making when securing permission from the California Coastal Commission (CCC) for construction, the Campus Planning and Design has sent out a public Notice of Impending Development (NOID) for the most recent building plans in addition to an after-the-fact NOID for the original development around the San Clemente Housing project and Harder Stadium.
