Following reports of a body found somewhere near the Hope Ranch area, investigators have begun looking into whether the report is true and whose body it might be. A call to Sheriff’s spokesperson Andrew Sugars confirmed only that crews had been dispatched to the general area. A tipster told The Independent, however, that the body had been discovered specifically in a creek near the intersection of Las Palmas and Las Olas drives, where emergency crews are currently clustered.

Sugars could also not confirm whether the body belonged to Metta Thomsen, the Alzheimer’s-stricken 89-year-old who went missing from her home on the Mesa on Saturday, June 27, and was never found. He also noted that if the body was exposed to the elements for a length of time, it may not be possible to identify it quickly.
