According to Sheriff’s Department reports, a young man walked into Lassen’s Health Foods around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, pointed a gun at a teller and demanded money. The clerk complied, handing over an undisclosed amount of cash, whereupon the armed man walked to the back of the store. The clerk stepped out of the store and happened to encounter an on-patrol Sheriff’s deputy. Though officers set up a perimeter around the store, they were unable to locate the suspect. According to the report, the conclusion was that the armed man had already escaped out the back.

The robber was described only as a young man who at the time of the robbery was wearing a black hood and possibly a mask as well. (The reason for the uncertainty about whether or not the robber was wearing a mask is as yet unexplained.) Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Sheriff’s Department at (805) 681-4100.
