Free Info for “Water-Wise” Gardening

County Makes CD, Website of Info Available to the Public

A new website of water-conservative gardening tips developed by the Santa Barbara County Water Agency aims to help the public create landscaping that works economically and ecologically with the Santa Barbara County climate. The information, which is also available in CD-ROM form, includes a database of over 1,000 “water-wise” trees, shrubs, ground covers, grasses, vines, and cacti, and succulents with more than 300 photos of gardens throughout Santa Barbara County grouped into “garden tours.”

“The information can help design and maintain beautiful gardens while actually using less water,” said Matt Naftaly, county water agency manager. “Best of all, it’s available now, for free, at a time when all Californians are increasingly concerned about water supplies and water conservation.”

The website and CD also feature sustainable landscaping tips, information on smart irrigation technology and a landscape watering calculator are included.

Those seeking this information can find it online at‘s website. The CD is available at the Carpinteria Valley Water District, City of Lompoc, City of Santa Barbara, City of Santa Maria, Goleta Water District, Montecito Water District and the Vandenberg Village Community Services District.
