Two Arrested for Sept. 19 Stabbing in I.V.

Sheriff, Foot Patrol Increase Patrol Officers

Sheriff’s deputies broke up a fight on the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive in Isla Vista on Friday, September 19, and ended up arresting two people on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Chatsworth resident Donald Pounds and a 17-year-old Woodland Hills resident were both arrested on suspicion of having stabbed a 20-year-old Los Angeles resident. The 17-year-old was also arrested on charges of possession of concentrated cannabis. The 20-year-old victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of his wounds.

A press statement on the matter noted that the Sheriff’s Department has doubled the number of on-patrol officers in the I.V. area because the new school year began on Thursday, September 24. As it does every year, the population of I.V. has risen dramatically following the summer break. And along with the 18,000 returning students and 4,000 new freshmen come a host of out-of-town visitors to party with them. “There is no doubt we see an increase in alcohol related violence and crime during the weekend,” said Lt. Brian Olmstead in a press statement. “Most of the young people are obeying the law; however we see our share of underage drinking, public drunkenness, fights and sexual assaults. This is a great community, but there are some real dangers out there as well.”
