Happenings 1-7
Cottage Health System is hosting a memorial service this Sunday evening for the 440 patients who died within the walls of its three facilities over the past 12 months. Cottage traditionally has hosted similar events for infants and children who died there, but this is the first such service for adults. The strictly nondenominational event begins at 5 p.m. at Cottage’s Santa Barbara facility, and is open to the public. Attendees will be given origami cranes onto which they can write the names of the deceased. These cranes will be placeed on a ceremonial table and the names read aloud.

Producers of the Dog Whisperer television show will be holding auditions this Friday at 3 p.m. in search of new and uniquely troubled dogs at a State Street dog salon, 4 Paws. The show’s host, Cesar Millan, will not be present, but two assistants will be on hand to interview pet owners about their dogs’ phobias, anxieties, or other behavioral ailments. Owners are advised to bring along a video that depicts their dog’s behavioral problems; the dogs’ presence is strictly optional, though aggressive dogs are encouraged to stay home. Millan’s show is broadcast on the National Geographic Channel.
