Inaugural Australia Day Festival on January 23
You know you’d like to celebrate Australia Day, the country’s birthday, but that plane ticket just doesn’t fit your budget. Fortunately, some Aussie transplants, led by the folks at Kalyra Winery, have created the Australia Day Festival, to be held at the S.B. Maritime Museum (113 Harbor Wy.) on Saturday, January 23, from 5-11 p.m. “The Australia Day Festival will host a variety of Aussie classic favorites, including meat pies and sausage rolls, Vegemite sandwich bites, kangaroo sliders, lamb skewers, and shrimp from the BBQ,” said the event’s producer, Shannon Leggett. “All of these authentic appetizers are products flown in directly from Australia to showcase various types of typical Australian homegrown snacks. It will be quite an experience for people who have tried and love Aussie food and for guests new to the cuisine known for its variety and unique flavors.” Of course Kalyra will be pouring its wine, and there will be beer (this is an Australian festival, after all), music, art, and a sports theater and bar broadcasting live rugby and cricket
