Casa Esperanza Launches Grant Matching Campaign
Casa Esperanza Homeless Shelter announced on 6/3 that it is launching a grant matching campaign in hopes of keeping the organization’s doors open to area homeless. Through 7/30, a group of philanthropic individuals and organizations—including Leslie Ridley-Tree, Sarah Miller McCune, the Gildea Foundation, and the Housing Authority—will match every donation up to a total of $250,000. Casa Esperanza’s director Michael Foley noted that more than $1 million, or 61 percent, of the nonprofit’s income comes from donations, and that the organization is in a tough spot as it has in the last 18 months “faced unprecedented numbers of homeless people in desperate need and a decrease in available funding.”
