Supes Officially Rescind Approval of Ballantyne Mansion

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors made it official this week and ditched its previous approval for a mostly glass and steel mansion—complete with a dirt wall to hide it from the public eye—at the eastern-most gate of the Gaviota Coast. The supes were forced to rescind their approval of the controversial Ballantyne residence after a lawsuit, filed by the Gaviota Coast Conservancy, challenging the legality of the approval was upheld in several different courts of appeal. If the planned 15,000-square-foot home is to become a reality, the owners would have to submit a full environmental review on their own dime before re-running the county approval gauntlet.
