While Democrat Das Williams raised and spent far more to secure his party’s nomination in the race for the 35th Assembly District, his Republican counterpart, Mike Stoker, has far more cash on hand. Williams raised $340,000 compared to the $45,000 generated by Stoker, but Stoker ended the month of June with a campaign war chest of $107,000 as opposed to Williams’s $30,000.

The difference is that Williams faced a bruising primary battle against Susan Jordan, who raised $170,000 on her own. She was assisted to the tune of $40,000 by an independent expenditure committee — No Louisiana in Santa Barbara — which sought to equate Williams’s support for a controversial offshore oil project favored by leaders of the South Coast environmental establishment to the BP spill.

Williams’s victory over Jordan was decisive. Because registered Democrats outnumber Republicans in the 35th district, Williams is favored to beat Stoker, a longtime Republican workhorse and former county supervisor now working as an assistant to State Senator Tony Strickland.

Joyce Dudley raised $215,000 in her quest to become county District Attorney, beating out her only rival Josh Lynn who raised $195,000. Janet Wolf, Second District Supervisor, raised $217,000 to hold onto her seat against challenger Dan Secord, who raised $157,000.
