Search Yields More I.D. Theft Victims
Transferred Funds to Himself
Detectives from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office have discovered new information regarding Imoukhuede Ohiwerei Ehimi, the 26-year-old charged with identity theft by way of unsecured wireless internet networks.
A Goleta resident, he was able to access local personal computers and garner personal financial information and then transfer the funds to himself, according to Sheriff’s spokesman Brad McVay.
Originally searched and arrested on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, he was released after posting bail of $150,000.
But now-developed information obtained during his original search has brought to light additional victims. Found in Fontana, California and arrested again on additional charges, Ehimi is being returned to Santa Barbara County. His bail has climbed to $1,000,000 and the investigation continues.
