Anticouni & Associates Successful Negotiation Benefits EDC by $25,000
Legal Settlement Settlement Leads to Contribution To Environmental Defense Center
Bruce Anticouni, principal of the law firm of Anticouni & Associates in Santa Barbara, announced today that as part of a settlement negotiated in a major class action lawsuit, a charitable contribution of approximately $25,000 will be paid to the Environmental Defense Center (EDC), a local non-profit environmental advocacy organization.
The money for this contribution comes from a cy-près fund created as the result of Anticouni & Associates success in a class action lawsuit, from funds remaining in the settlement pool. The parties, whose identities are confidential under their negotiated settlement, agreed that payment of these unclaimed funds to EDC would serve the purposes that led to the suit.
“Receiving an unexpected donation like this is, of course, terrific,” said David Landecker, Executive Director of EDC. “We don’t even know the exact source of the funds, but can assure the parties and the community that they will be used to advance the environmental health of the coast, ocean, open spaces, wildlife and people of Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties which EDC serves. We are very grateful to the Anticouni law firm for recognizing this opportunity to bestow a significant benefit on EDC and the local environment.”
The Environmental Defense Center protects and enhances the local environment through education, advocacy, and legal action and works primarily within Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties. Since 1977, EDC has empowered community based organizations to advance environmental protection. Program areas include protecting coast and ocean resources, open spaces and wildlife, and human and environmental health. For more information visit online.
