Paseo Nuevo Lands a Whacky Cake Wonderland

What: A cupcake candyland in the Paseo Nuevo mall built upon whimsical fantasy characters.

The Dish: “My dear boy … Do you ask a fish how it swims? Or a bird how it flies? No siree, you don’t! They do it because they were born to do it!” The same is true for Whodidily owners Wendy and Dave Jones, who were born to create inventive cupcake couture in a fantasy Wonka-Candyland setting. Opening their second location this fall in Paseo Nuevo (the first thrives on Coast Village Road in Montecito), this 2,000-square-foot space houses a Frostinator with which to frost your own cupcakes. Tabletops showcase rainbow sprinkles and concentric colored gumballs through glass tops, and candy bins line the whimsical walls. The signature Scrumdidily is a decadent vanilla cake filled with a cookie-dough center. I Love You a Latte is a chocolate cupcake with a Starbucks coffee cream cheese center, topped with buttercream and rolled in coffee sprinkles. Oompa Loompas can be ordered by the dozen—red velvet cake with cookie-dough center, topped with pillowed orange buttercream frosting and green sprinkles.
