As part of its county wide United for Literacy initiative United Way of Santa Barbara County is partnering with FD3/ Green 2 Gold and Move Green to disburse over 12,000 books to local non-profit agencies.

The event will take place Jan 21, 2011, Friday from 5pm -7pm at United Way of Santa Barbara County; 320 E Gutierrez St.

Agencies are invited to stop by and help themselves to the books available. The books are all new and consist of adult fiction and non-fiction titles. Volunteers will be on hand to assist agencies coming to get books.

“At United Way we are always looking for new and innovative ways we can support our partner agencies” said Joel Goforth, Director for Community Impact at United Way. “And what better way to promote literacy than giving 12,000 books away!” he added.

Green to Gold and Move Green two local, environmentally focused, non-profits generously volunteered to help put this event on. FD3 spokespersons, Lielle Arad and Alan Tratner say, “FD3 is very grateful to kick this year off with this serious donation. We have major plans this year, and this donation helps to get us off and running.”
