A new, $12,400 fence was erected around the Cabrillo Ball Field bleachers last week with the hope that homeless people will now find the area a less desirable place to congregate. Only those who secure a park permit with its associated fee will be able to access the bleachers and bathrooms, which are also locked. Long considered a problem area prone to drug use, public urination, and general disturbances, the field has become a lighting rod for community organizations like the newly formed Milpas Community Association that say everyday citizens are being pushed out of city facilities due to an increased presence of unsavory characters and activities.
