A man forced his way into a downtown doctor’s office this morning, reports Santa Barbara Police Department spokesperson Lt. Paul McCaffrey, and stole a small amount of money from a frightened worker.

The incident began around 8:50 a.m. when the female employee, who works out of Dr. Scott Kozak’s office at 28 West Mission Street, walked past the location’s front doors on her way to get a cup of coffee before her shift and noticed two men lingering nearby.

When she returned and unlocked the front door, one of the suspects — described as a black male around 5 feet, 8 inches tall and of thin build, sporting a black hooded sweatshirt and red bandanna — forced his way inside and demanded money from the register.

The employee explained the office did not have a register, and wound up giving the suspect what McCaffrey described as “a small stack of $5 bills” from the petty cash box.

The two men then ran away. Police are still attempting to locate them.
