Last Sunday, PUEBLO held the third in its series of five immigration rights workshops at the Westside Boys and Girls Club. The first two netted about 100 participants, but turnout last Sunday was slimmer, likely because it was Palm Sunday. Public defenders Mark Saatjian and Deedrea Edgar educated participants about their rights—namely to stay silent, to have an attorney, and to not allow anyone into their home without a warrant. Immigration attorney Arnold Jaffe also talked about Secure Communities, an information-sharing collaboration between federal immigration and law enforcement agencies. The next workshop on May 22 will take place in Old Town Goleta, and the last on June 12 on the Eastside.
