Jean and Marz
ABANDON ALL HOPE … of getting a word in edgewise around these two. Jean Yamamura, a Santa Barbara Independent copy editor of about a decade and counting, and Marz Miller, an Independent intern, have known each other for 17 years, give or take nine months, the sort of acquaintance that gives them the ability to end each other’s sentences, if only to kill each other’s jokes. Yamamura first brought her son to the office for babysitting, but most recently brought him in as a video intern. Nepotism, you might ask? “I categorically warned you not to listen to me,” says Yamamura of proposing Miller as an intern. We accepted him anyway, and Miller contributes short videos to our online news page, as well as helping to produce the weekly bulletin at Santa Barbara High School, interning at the S.B. Museum of Art, and working on the post-production phase of his current film, Konec.
