Santa Maria farmer Peter Adam, the former director of the Santa Barbara County Farm Bureau whose family owns one of the county’s largest farming operations, has thrown his hat in the ring for 4th District county supervisor. Adam, a 48-year-old staunch conservative, will face incumbent Joni Gray, who has held the seat since being appointed to the board in 1998 by then-governor Pete Wilson. Gray won reelection in 2008 over the late John Sterling, a former Santa Maria Police chief, with 57 percent of the vote.
