Almost 100 members of the Santa Barbara community and parents will gather to read aloud to the kindergarten through 6th grade classes. “Read with Roosevelt” is the school’s traditional way to showcase reading and to involve the community in the school, located at Laguna and Mission Streets in Santa Barbara.

This special day is a fabulous experience for both the adults and children—what a marvelous way to celebrate the magic of reading. Just a sampling of the wonderful Santa Barbara residents sharing their favorite books and poems will be:

  • Mayor Helene Schneider
  • SB City Councilmembers: Frank Hotchkiss and Randy Rowse
  • SB 1st District Supervisor: Salud Carbajal
  • SB D.A. Joyce Dudley
  • SB School District and SB School Board Representatives: Robin Sawaski, Nancy Tobin, Meg Jette and Susan Deacon
  • SB High School Principal John Becchio and SB Jr. High Asst. Principal Julie Bolton
  • Journalists and Press Members: Frank Newton and Marianne Partridge
  • Broadcasting Community: Spencer Fischer (KVYB), Phat J (KJEE)
  • Art and Literature Representatives: Itoko Maeno, Marni McGee, Penny Sidoli, Glenn Leopold, Ashleigh Brilliant and Dr. Julie Coburn
  • Former Mayor & SBCC Trustee: Marty Blum
  • Representatives from Citrix Online, Das Williams’ office, the many SB cultural institutions, beloved former teachers, educators (secondary and higher education), parents and many more!
