Fullerton Titans Visit UCSB in Big West Baseball
Four local teams – Santa Barbara, Dos Pueblos, Cate and Laguna Blanca – won their opening-round matches in the CIF boys volleyball playoffs and will be playing on their home courts in the second round Thursday.
Santa Barbara’s tennis team also goes into the playoffs as league champion. The Dons will host a wild-card winner in their opening match Wednesday.
Dos Pueblos High has clinched a share of the Channel League baseball title, and the Chargers can claim it all to themselves if they win their regular-season finale against San Marcos on Wednesday. Bishop Diego, runaway winner of the Frontier League title, closes out against Fillmore on Thursday.
Eighth-ranked Cal State Fullerton rolls into Caesar Uyesaka Stadium on Friday to begin a three-game series against the UCSB Gauchos, who have been winning and losing (9-9) close games in the Big West Conference.
The Santa Barbara Breakers pulled out a close one in the West Coast Pro Basketball League, defeating the Santa Monica Jump, 90-86. Arnette Hollis hit a go-ahead three-pointer and added two free throws as the Breakers rallied in the final minutes. The Breakers (4-1) continue their Saturday night homestand at San Marcos High on May 12 against the Los Angeles Advantage.
