Thanks from the Heart
I would like to thank and praise the work of Food from the Heart for the delicious, healthy meals that they provided to me during my lengthy recovery. This is a wonderful non-profit organization that seeks to help those that are recovering from surgery or a health crisis, and are on their own.
Each Wednesday I looked forward to delivery of the variety of meals, created with Robin Monroe’s brilliant recipes. Robin, the director and executive chef of Food from the Heart, plans the menus each week based on food items donated by food stores, foundations, local banks, some of Santa Barbara’s best bakeries, and financial donations from several other generous sources. The food was tasty, full of nutritional value, and a good source of anti-oxidants. In recovery and healing these nutrients are so important. These wholesome meals were accompanied by fresh fruits, vegetables, fresh bread, home-made cakes, milk, and juices.
I feel certain that the food I received from Food from the Heart helped immensely in my recovery, both physically and mentally. I not only felt stronger after eating the bounty brought to me, but I felt the love that was put into all the preparation. I am healthy and recovered now and recently went to visit the Food from the Heart operation on a Wednesday morning. I was overwhelmed by the energy, spirit, and love emanating from this non-profit community effort.
Food from the Heart operates primarily by volunteers and always welcomes drop-in volunteers on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Their kitchen is in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at 909 North La Cumbre Road. It is a very worthwhile program to consider if you are looking for a place to volunteer or make donations to. For information call (805) 898-3981. This special, one-of-a kind service program serves a specific need in our community, and we are very fortunate to have it here in Santa Barbara.
