Another Gender Heard From

Thanks to letter-writer Mason Carter for pointing out the dire lack of female musicians in The Independent‘s Battle of Bands finals. Mr. Carter points out a tendency that I have noticed with several musical events in Santa Barbara. I have been reluctant to respond to it because I felt that as a female musician I would possibly be dismissed as just being bitter. The fact that he felt the need to point out that he was not a “man hater” and is in fact a man himself, goes to my point. As Mr. Carter notes, there are indeed numerous talented women musicians in town that could be included more equitably in the various events and festivals we have here. I was very happy to see that a man wrote the letter that I myself had felt inspired to write several times.
