More Santa Barbarans Bike

Santa Barbara County ranks 25th in the United States when gauging the rate of increase in bicycle commuters from 2000 to 2010. The U.S. Census found that the number of Santa Barbarans who rode to work increased by 0.9 percent in that time, or a jump from 22.7 percent to 23.6 percent of all commuters. Looked at in absolute numbers, that’s an increase from 4,820 to 6,760. (The City of Santa Barbara experienced an increase from 3.7 percent to 6.2.) Although these numbers remain relatively low, Santa Barbara County was eclipsed only by much larger counties. In general, Oregon communities fared best in number of bicycle commuters.
