I love Santa Barbara, but every so often I want to help fine-tune it as anyone else who loves this place likes to do. As a new resident of South Salinas Street, I can’t help but agree with the mini-piece Channel 3 news did a few weeks ago on the small protest about dangers to pedestrians living here. So, after a short review of Salinas Street, I noticed that along the whole two-mile stretch of this busy Highway 101 exit-and-entrance thoroughfare, there is not one speed-limit sign on either side of the whole street. Not one?! Not mentioned by Channel 3 news, but no wonder the residents live in fear.

This is a family neighborhood, filled with lots of families and their pets. And to see the racing and revving of engines of cars and trucks before they race onto the 101, and when they fly through the neighborhood after getting off the 101! The thought of our city officials waiting for a tragedy to happen and then the city getting sued for the absence of speed limit signs is much more tragic than to write this letter to try to warn everyone and maybe get this glaringly obvious problem resolved.
