Cater Water Treatment Plant Closing for Construction
Santa Barbara’s Cater Water Treatment Plant — which treats city drinking water and supplies the Santa Barbara, Montecito, and Carpinteria Valley water districts — will shut down January 11-13 and January 18-20 for construction of its $20 million, federally mandated Ozonation Project.
During those two weekends, drinking water production will be suspended at the plant, but the city’s 13 reservoirs will be filled to max capacities and augmented with limited supplies from the city’s wells and neighboring water agencies. City officials are asking residents to conserve drinking water during the shutdown times to ensure uninterrupted supply.
