Cause of Yurt Fire a Mystery
Crews Battled Burning Ammunition and Leaking Propane Tank
Three days after a fire ignited a yurt and a quarter-acre of canyon land at 2040 North San Marcos Road, investigators are still unable to determine the cause of the blaze.
“Due to the complete destruction of the structure and all of its components, a discernible ignition source could not be found,” said County Fire spokesperson David Sadecki in a statement.
The fire, which started in or near a yurt at the bottom of the canyon the morning of January 13, ignited live ammunition and a propane tank located inside the dwelling. The blaze spread to vegetation in the surrounding area, but no injuries or damage to other structures were reported.
