Effective January 1, 2013, Pueblo Radiology and Judy Dean, MD will jointly operate Dr. Dean’s office at its existing 1525 State Street, Suite 102, Santa Barbara location under the name Santa Barbara Women’s Imaging Center (SBWIC).

SBWIC will continue to focus exclusively on women’s medical imaging services. Pueblo Radiology will continue to provide a full range of radiology services at its 2320 Bath Street, Santa Barbara location. The facilities together provide easy and prompt access to a full spectrum of breast imaging services.

“I am very pleased and excited to associate with Pueblo Radiology,” Dr. Dean said. “After so many years of working in the same community, we know each other very well. This new relationship will be good for our patients and for the advancement of women’s health specifically.”

Santa Barbara Women’s Imaging Center will offer the latest FDA approved Hologic Dimensions Tomosythesis breast imaging technology, also known as 3D mammography. “From a woman’s perspective, the examination is similar to a regular digital mammogram,” according to Dr. Dean. “Instead of just four images, however, the study includes hundreds of images. A set of thin volume ‘slices’ spaced 1 mm apart to allow improved evaluation of the breast without confusion from overlapping densities. This is especially helpful in the presence of dense breast tissue, but has been shown to improve cancer detection even in women without dense tissue.”

Tomosynthesis complies with the dense breast screening notice required under California Senate Bill 1538 to all women with dense breasts.

Lawrence P. Harter, MD, FACR, President of Pueblo Radiology, commented, “We are pleased that our affiliation with Dr. Dean allows us to bring this new level of breakthrough technology and service to our patients. It continues Pueblo’s 50 plus year tradition of high quality service.”
