Brush Fire Near Lompoc Burns Six to Eight Acres
County Fire Spokesperson Said Crews Got Good Jump on Wildland Blaze
[UPDATE]: While the fire is out, the cause is still under investigation, according to Captain David Sadecki. The fire consumed six to eight acres total, but was slowed by several water drops from a county helicopter.
The fire was contained by 3:30 p.m. There were no injuries and no structures burned.
[ORIGINAL REPORT]: Santa Barbara County Fire crews are responding to a six- to eight-acre brush fire about one mile south of the 6700 block of Highway 1 near Lompoc.
There are currently eight engines on the scene and one helicopter. County Fire spokesperson Captain David Sadecki said two air tankers have been requested along with water tenders and hand crews.
Winds in the area are blowing out of the northwest at approximately 10 mph. The air temperature is 75 degrees and humidity is 34 percent.
Sadecki said while the fire has not been contained, crews have been making significant progress in stopping it. “Things look really good,” he said. No structures are currently threatened. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
