Capps Votes Against No Child Left Behind
Sides With Other Dems to Not Reauthorize Student Success Act
Representative Lois Capps voted along party lines against a reauthorization of the Student Success Act—more commonly known as No Child Left Behind—aimed at transferring power to states and local districts. The bill —which is expected to die in the Senate—would cut several federal programs and, save for Title 1 funds, lock in appropriation rates at post-sequestration levels for five years, effectively cutting $1 billion. “Unfortunately, Lois Capps wants more bureaucratic interference in our children’s education,” said a spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
