Reservoir Sinkhole Study Approved
Issue at Vic Trace Reservoir Has Appeared Three Times
The city council on Tuesday approved a geotechnical investigation for a reappearing sinkhole near the Vic Trace Reservoir on Dolores Drive. Earth Systems — the firm selected by the Public Works Department to complete the $55,000 job — will conduct a preliminary evaluation of the entire reservoir. In addition to checking out the sinkhole, which is about the size of a small animal den and has reappeared three times in the past 10 years, geotechnicians will assess soil samples and identify any other potential hazards. City Water System Manager Cathy Taylor speculated that surface runoff caused the sinkhole. But, she said, “It is not an imminent danger.”
