Brier Random Wins New Yorker Contest
As first reported in this Q&A over the weekend, Santa Barbara resident Brier Random found out last week that he was a finalist in the New Yorker magazine’s famous cartoon caption contest. On Sunday afternoon, the occasional contributor to this newspaper learned the good news that he prevailed in the competition, beating out the other finalists to be proclaimed the best cartoon caption writer of the week in, perhaps, the world.
“I don’t expect it to profoundly change my life,” said Random. “I’ll probably walk with a little extra spring in my step for a few days, though. And a little extra sparkle in my eyeholes.”
