CARPINTERIA, Calif. — MAY 9, 2014 – As supporters of the United Fresh Foundation’s “Let’s Move Salad Bars to California Schools” campaign, Hollandia Produce, L.P., announced today it will formally present its donation of two new salad bars to the Conejo Valley Unified School District, during a salad bar unveiling ceremony on Tuesday, May 13 at 11:30 am in the cafeteria of Thousand Oaks High School, located at 2323 N. Moorpark Road.

Vincent Choate, director of Marketing for Hollandia Produce, will formally present the donation, which also includes a Westlake High School salad bar, to Linda Bekeny, assistant superintendent of Business Services and Lou Lichtel, Thousand Oaks High School principal, who will be among the dignitaries accepting on behalf of Conejo Valley USD.

“We are very excited about Hollandia Produce’s generous donation,” said Bekeny. “These salad bars support our efforts to source local, seasonal produce to serve to our students as part of our meal program, and support the valuable nutrition, agriculture and environmental lessons we’re focused on with our students, staff and community.

The “Let’s Move Salad Bars to California Schools” campaign supports Team California for Healthy Kids, a program started by California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson to increase access to fresh foods and salad bars. United Fresh and its membership are collaborating with the California State Department of Education to achieve these shared goals. This is Hollandia Produce’s fifth salad bar donation since joining the campaign initiative.

As a grower and shipper of Live Gourmet® and Grower Pete’s brands of living lettuce and leafy greens, Hollandia Produce is a strong proponent of healthy eating. “Through this initiative, we can support better access to healthy food and influence children and families to increase their intake of fruits and vegetables,” stressed Pete Overgaag, chief executive officer of Hollandia Produce.
